Creating A Social Life
Your in a different country and you are going to have to find new friends to have a social life with, this is very important to have a social life outside the family to make your stay more enjoyable. Their is no substitute for a friend to be their for you when you need it and their should be plenty of ways to find people to socialise with.
Meeting Other Au pairs/Nannies
The first thing you can do to try and find new friends is to ask your family if they know any other families in the area that have an Au pair/Nanny this could be a quick and easy way to meet people that are doing the same things as you. If you attend a local college for language this could be the perfect way to meet other Au pairs/Nannies to be friends with and you will be surprised how many other Au pairs are in the area you work in. If all else fails their are other ways to make contact with people for example you could place an advert in a local newspaper for other Au pairs and Nannies believe me you will be surpirsed to how successful this would be!
Meeting Other Foreigner People
If you cannot find other Au pairs or Nannies in your area you try to meet other foreigners that are not Au pairs/Nannies, seek out overseas student clubs in universities nearby, try to find churches where you might find other foreigners willing to make friends. As mentioned above you should most definitely meet other people at a language school and should provide plenty of opportunity to meet other people from different countries.
Meeting The Local People
You may want to try and meet people in the local area, try to make conversation to people while in cafes, buses or in shops this may be difficult to start with but your best bet is to meet local students who will probably have for time to socialise. If you have any hobbies or interests try to find a local club where you will meet people with the same interests as yourself.
