Au Pair/Nanny Interviews

Welcome to our familyIt it unlikely you will have to attend an interview unless you are already in the country you wish to work in, this is different for Nannies or Mothers Help jobs, where the candidates will be interviewed by the Agency, family for an appointed representative of the family. Some family that live in different countries to where you live could arrange a meeting with you while they are on a business trip or on holiday in your country, it is very unlikely you will be transported to the family home for this athe family will want to meet you in your own country.

Preparing For The Interview
The best thing you can do before your interview with the family is to write down a number of questions that you want to ask them if you can try to memorise them. During the interview try to ask the questions you have while in conversation with the family this will help to make the interview interesting but don’t worry if this is too hard for you, asking any questions to the family shows intuitive, and remember try to make the interview and interesting as possible this give the family a good impression and increases the chances of getting the job.

It is imperative that you look at your best for any interview and this has no exceptions, the best thing to do is to be clean and tidy for the interview don’t overdress but just look presentable and this will be fine, try to make a good impression, as by being polite, fun and not too informal.

How To Conduct Yourself At The Interview
Try to get to the interview early this gives you time to prepare yourself for the meeting and if the children are present try to familiarise yourself with them and this will give you a chance to decide if you want to be their Au pair/Nanny or Mother helper. While waiting try to go over the points and questions you may want to ask the family and try to memorise these points for the interview. When the Au pair/Nanny Interview starts the family will probably start by giving you details of what the Au pair/Nanny job involves try to remember this for later! During this dont forget to ask the family your days off and how much money you will be paid their maybe other benefits to the job, use of a car, internet access, own bedroom with TV… etc. The most important thing is to show an interest in the children as these are the people you will be looking after try to talk about them too, if the children are not present ask for a photo of them, the parents will be very happy if you show a genuine interest in them.
