The Reasons I Want To Be An Au Pair:
|
I would love to work as an au pair to live with a native European family and be like a "big sister" to your children! I honestly love little children from other countries--I love hearing a young child speaking swedish, for example! It inspires me to have my own bi-lingual kids someday.
I would also love to get back out to Europe and live among the natives, learn more about the culture, and improve my Swedish language. I would love to become fluent! And of course, if your aim is have your kids learn more English, that is another great bonus since I was raised speaking English.
Also, I would love to provide a meaningful service to your family while still feeling a part of it. Au pairing seems to be a beautiful balance of the two. I have heard so many great things about other friends and their au pair experience, so I would love an experience of my own!
I hope you will consider me for the job!

My Interests:
|
Hej hej! I am Kristen Vasilev, and I am from Los Angeles, California. Currently, I am in my fourth year finishing up my studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz and will graduate with a bachelors degree in Film and Digital Media in June 2012.
This past year, from August 2010-July 2011, I had the amazing opportunity to study abroad in Lund, Sweden at the town's university. I had the greatest time and really adapted to the Swedish culture. All the friends I made were Swedes and through interacting with them, I was able to pick up some Swedish. I wouldn't call my Swedish completely introductory, but definitely no where at a fluent level. I really love the Swedish language and hope to become fluent in it, though. I try to keep up with Swedish using Rosetta Stone, a language tool on my computer, as well as keeping in touch with mina svenska kompisar.
I am born and raised in California, but have very strong European roots. My father was born and raised in Bulgaria and my mother's parents came over to California from Ireland. My parents have raised my younger sister and I with a great sense of the world, a passion for travel, and a love of Europe and our roots. I have visited many places in Europe on family vacations, such as Italy, Ireland, England, France, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Netherlands, etc. but I have only gotten to live abroad once during my time in Sweden. After graduating university this June, my dream is to travel, see the world, and really live in countries and not just pass through for a few days. My true vision is to live and work in Europe. And hopefully, if I end up getting an Irish passport, I plan to study my masters in Lund or Uppsala in public relations/ media in the near future.
I have a younger sister who I have always been looking out for my whole life, and I had to babysit her a lot when we were younger. As well, I have a lot of babysitting experience with various neighborhood families throughout all of high school and some college. In the summers of 2006 and 2007, I was a junior camp counselor where I monitored a group of children ages 10-12, led them to their daily activities, etc. My family has a labrador dog that I have had to take care of as well when I am home, so there is no problem if you have pets! I perform many chores around my parents house when I am with them during the holidays and summer. Otherwise, I live up at a house in my university town where I am very independent, doing all my grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, homework, etc. University has taught me a lot about responsibility, time-management, but also to enjoy myself when the time is right and get serious when it's necessary.
I enjoy photography, fotball, socializing, baking, really good meals and wine with friends, an intriguing book, biking, working out, foreign and independent film, and of course, traveling.
