The Reasons I Want To Be An Au Pair:

I always loved to look after children and so I cannot really tell you how many years of experiences with children I do have exactly. But it's at least 5 to 7 years when I start counting from the point of time when my little brothers were born. They're now 7 and 5 years old. I took care of them ever since they were still infants. I did everything from just looking after them and ensure their safety, to diapering, feeding, putting them to sleep or taking care of them overnight sometimes. I helped and still help my dad a lot, especially when he and his wife need a day off or something to go to the movies i.e. I play with them, go to playgrounds or playhouses with them; we've been to cinema a couple of times as well and different other activities. Whatever they liked actually. When my dads wife was in hospital for a couple of weeks and my dad wouldn't get holidays all the time... I managed the whole household and other duties as well. I woke them up in the mornings, brought them to kindergarten, I was responsible for their meals and everything else. I took care of my little cousins as well, but only through my schoolholidays since they live in the U.K. My cousins are called Tazmyn and Zasha. Tazmyn is a lively, clever and very girlie 8 year old young lady. She enjoys 'girlie days' and 'girlie talks' with me since she only has got two brothers and no sister. Zasha is a very cute and strong little boy. He's 3 years old and disabled. He's got the downsyndrom but nevertheless he's energetic and fun to be with. Next to that I got certain other babysitting-experiences out of the family. But the duties were the same and it was rather short periods so I'm not going into too much detail here. It was simply always fun and rewarding to look after small kids. In 2004 I did a practical training in a kindergarten. I looked after 3 to 6 year olds there. I was usually responsible for groups of 5 to 10 kids. We played all different type of things in- and outdoors, painted pictures together and had or prepared breakfast and the breakfasttable together. I was responsible for different domestic duties as well. Next to that I take care of 5th and 6th grade students after school every Tuesday and Thursday. All in all about 4 hours a week. I do this for about a year now. The kids are between 10 and 12 years old. We help them with their homework, play with them, draw, talk or do other things they like to do. The size of the groups can be from 7 to 30 students. It’s fun to look after them and it’s interesting to see the different needs and the behaviour of older kids for a change. Next to that I’ve been on different seminars and I took part in some projects f.ex. we helped kids from our school doing experiments for chemistry or physics etc. And I choose pedagogics as one of my majors. So all in all you can see that I love to be surrounded by and to play with kids. Next to that I’m looking forward to meet new people, make new friends and just socialize and get to know a new exciting culture and country.

My Interests:

Now… My favourite things to do in my spare time are meeting friends*, going out i.e. to the movies or dancing, spending time with my family, draw, listen to music, act (we have a school-theatre-group) and do whatever seems fun actually. I love animals to death. We had several like a hamster, rabbits, guinea pigs and a cat. At the moment we have a dog called ‘Jule’ and I have got a gerbil. She’s called ‘Chrispy’. Travelling and seeing other countries and cultures was always interesting to me. I’ve been to Britain, Denmark, Spain, Turkey, Greek, Hungary and some other countries. Unfortunately I’ve never been to the U.S. before but it was always one of my biggest dreams to travel to the U.S.A. and I decided right after school would be the perfect time to do that.
