The Reasons I Want To Be An Au Pair:

My keen interest in Modern History along with my love for travel has led to my intention of studying International relations at the Australian National University in 2008. This course requires the study of History and Politics along with a language other than English. However before I begin university I would love to have a year off from serious study to put my mind to learning another language whilst having a good time and exploring new places and meeting new people. I genuinely enjoy spending time with children and would love to become an aupair.

My Interests:

I am an outgoing eighteen year old who would love to spend a year in France looking after children. I live in Bega which is a small country town on the East Coast of Australia, South of Sydney. I grew up on a small hobby farm where I spent most of my time swimming at the beach, riding horses or playing sports such as Netball. I am the youngest of three children. My father is a Veterinary Surgeon and my mother is the practice manager of the local Orthodontist. In my final year at school I maintained a strong Academic profile whilst applying myself in all areas of school life. I have lived away from home for three years, attending Boarding School, an experience that not only has provided me with the independence to consider moving overseas but also the integrity to be able to live and meet new people. During this time I immersed myself not only in the culture of the Boarding life but also in the outstanding co-curricular programs my school was able to provide. I was a member of the schools representative netball team and in my final year I was elected as Boarding House Captain and a member of the Schools Senior Representative Council. My role as Boarding House Captain provided me with, not only the opportunity to develop my confidence and organizational skills but also the ability to provide much needed pastoral care for the students younger then myself dealing with the woes of living great distances from their family and friends. I was awarded a number of leadership awards for my efforts. I love spending time with children, whether it is spent at the local park, swimming or simply reading and it would be my pleasure to provide support and relief to a prospective parent. Although I am not a fluent French speaker I am committed to learning the language and I will be taking regular French lessons to supplement what I will learn within the home environment. I would love to help the children learn English as I have no realized how valuable it is to learn other languages. I have had a number of part time jobs in which I was reliable, flexible and able to adapt to suit the employer. I am willing to do housework, cook the family meals and provide entertainment for the children, such as outdoor activity. Through past experience I would enjoy working with children of ages 1 to 10, however this is flexible.

Family Letter:

Dear Family, Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to apply for this au pair position as I see it as a tremendous opportunity. I am an outgoing eighteen year old who would love to spend a year in France looking after children. I live in Bega, which is a small country town on the East Coast of Australia, South of Sydney. I was awarded a number of leadership awards for my efforts. In addition to casual babysitting throughout high school, my position as Boarding House Captain at Canberra Girls Grammar School in 2006 included both responsibility for the support and leadership of the younger girls within the boarding house itself, but also the care for children in the school’s Early Learning Centre (ages from 3-5) during events such as parent-teacher nights. I love spending time with children, whether it is spent at the local park, swimming or simply reading and it would be my pleasure to provide relief to you as a parent in return for your family’s support. Although I am not a fluent French speaker I am committed to learning the language and I will be taking regular French lessons to supplement what I will learn within the home environment. I would love to help your children learn English as I have no realized how valuable it is to learn other languages. I am willing cook the family meals and provide entertainment for the children, such as outdoor activity. I am looking forward to the prospect of living in France and becoming part of your family and community. Regards, Sophie Alexander
