Family Letter:
|
Dear Family:
My name is Marissa Lepe Preciado, I’m 23 years old and I’m Mexican. I just finished my social service year in a rural town providing basic health care. This is a requisite in my country to enter a residency program in medicine. For the last 6 years preparing and studying for medicine school has been my life. But I also have always wanted to travel and see the world.
My mother was a navy brat and my father a navy engineer, so I guess that’s where I got my “travel bug”. The medicine part I got it from my grandmother. She studied medicine when it was still considered “a man’s job”, with her there where only other 5 women, in a class of 300.
I have always wanted to help others, whether it is by giving a simple consult or by undertaking a complex surgical procedure. But I have learned that sometimes it is the small things that really matter and that make the real difference. Holding someone’s hand in a moment of need or simply being willing to listen. That is one of the reasons I want to be an Au Pair. With children things might seem simple but they can get real complex in a matter of seconds. I admire the way everything is new and exiting to them. And how they are capable to use their imagination, for better or for worse.
I try to keep that way of thinking, and use my imagination as much as I can. And never forget what it was like to be a kid. Deep down inside I thing we all do.
Sincerely
Marissa Lepe Preciado
