The Reasons I Want To Be An Au Pair:
|
I like to take care of children while experiencing a different kind of life on the other part of the world. Being an au pair broadens my horizon as I deal with people of different culture and language. So it is really challenging for me to study their language
|
My Interests:
|
I like pictures, cameras and computers. I am fond of taking pictures to preserve memories. I also like to play badminton and hang out in friends house to cook.

Dear Host Family,
I'm Anna , 26 years of age, a native of Philippines. I am currently residing in Belgium as an au pair. I transferred from The Netherlands last April 25 last year. I stayed there for one year as an au pair also. I lived close to them where i have my own little house for me to have my own privacy. For the past year being with them I can say that I am fortunate for being included in this sweet and caring family. I was treated fairly like a member of a family and they showed concern for my heath and safety as well. I took good care of a premature baby boy who was 3 months then when I came until his 15th month. I was the sole responsible for him and for the whole household too (incl grocery shopping & cooking) bec. both parents are working. I can say that I adapt their way of life somehow. Honestly, i don't cook in the Philippines coz my mother is a good cook so she does all the cooking for the whole family. But here i learned to cook Filipino foods. As this program is cultural exchange, I am glad that my host parents allow me to let them taste our kind of food. I've developed my skills in cooking. It's just funny to learned to cook Filipino dishes when I am in Holland.
I am currently in another family in Belgium. They are kind and sweet too. The couple have 2 girls, Maria 7yo and Sofia 4yo. This is a big difference for me from having a baby boy to two older girls. But it is not difficult to communicate coz they both understand english very well as they were both born in US. They are very sweet and respectful kids though sometimes a little bit spoiled. My new host parents are also nice, kind and generous. She was a chef in the US before so I am influence by her skills in cooking. We get along the whole day so I learn some cooking techniques form her. My host dad works at home but he usually travels for out of town business.
My own family lives in the Philippines. I have 3 brothers. My father is a taxi driver while my mother is a full time housewife. I am independent and flexible. Since I am the only girl I am expected to do most of the household chores. I am well oriented in childcare and have extensive experience in taking care of babies and toddlers since we have an extended family. At an early age I've been exposed to babysitting my younger cousins, nephews and niece. I took up Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and has been employed for more than three years in a company where I conducts spot audit of inventory in our branches. When I was in college I work as a part time service crew in various fast food chain and fine dining restaurant. It was really hard to serve two masters at the same time but because I know my priorities I survived the hardships. It was a remarkable experience because I have dealt with different kinds of people, learned to extend my patience to people in all walks of life, and improved my people and multi tasking skills. Through all these experiences and my determination, I managed to work as au pair in two countries and live with people of different language and cultures. I've never been enrolled in any care giving course nor been employed in a childcare institutions before. I believe that experience is still the best educator.
Living abroad affordably is a great opportunity. The reason why I joined the program is because I want to travel and see the beauty of other countries, learn the language and know the culture by heart and needless to say earn, somehow. In exchanged for this privilege is the responsibility of taking good care of your children and do some light housekeeping. I chose to work abroad because the allowance I am receiving means far much its equivalent exchange rate in the Philippines. I'll use it to help my mother whose tired up from being a full time mother and wife for all of us. I want her to experience an easy life because she's not getting any younger anymore. I also want to help even one of my brothers to go back to school because I know someday they will also have their own family and I want them to be a responsible father someday. And lastly for our future as well for I will definitely not stay as au pair or caregiver. I dream to live in Canada as my final step and hopefully bring my whole family to migrate.
