The Reasons I Want To Be An Au Pair:
|
I have always had a strong interest in Europe, and I have had hopes to someday move there permanently! Until I am able to do that, I would LOVE to have the oportunity to experience Europe as more than just a tourist, to better prepare myself for the possibility of moving there.
|
My Interests:
|
I am interested in many things, and I LOVE learning new things. But my main hobbies/interests include aviation I am a student pilot--I have taken private flying lessons, I am CLOSE to getting my private pilot license, and I plan to continue my training and someday become a professional pilot as a career, music I have done singing, and used to play the violin when I was in high school, movies, writing like poetry, and things like that.

Family Letter:

Hello! My name is Melissa, I'm 24 years old I will turn 25 at the end of November, and I am originally from the state of Minnesota, in the USA. I am a respectable midwest girl--kind, caring, friendly, trustworthy, responsible and not the "party" type, and able to get along with anyone including kids.
I am very interested in going to Germany especially around Frankfurt, perhaps... But anywhere in Germany would be fine, with the right family!. I am interested in learning and becoming fluent in a few languages German, Italian, and French, but so far I only know a little German. I had 4 years of German classes when I was in high school until 2002--equivalent to about 2 years of college language courses, but unfortunately I have forgotten a lot of it since I have not used it since then I can understand what I read in German more than I can speak/write it. But I know it would come back to me quickly once I am using it again.
I HAVE taken care of kids some, of various ages including ages 0-10. I started babysitting when I was about 13 years old, give or take. At that time I watched the neighbor's kids--one was a baby a little under a year old, when I started--then just over 2 years old when they moved away, and the other kid was about 4-5 years old they were brothers. That was typically afternoons/evenings/nights the single mother worked as a waitress in the afternoons/evenings, and didn't get home until around the middle of the night, usually, so I was responsible for making sure they had some food to eat if they hadn't eaten already, and getting them ready for bed. A few years later, after we moved to our current place, I did babysitting for 2 kids of another single mother that my dad worked with, for a while. They were both about 7-10 years old siblings also--a girl and a boy, this time. Those hours varried a little more, but again also happened to have a fair amount of evenings, including dinner and bedtime. And this past summer I also spent a few weeks at my aunt's house my uncle was away from home most of the time, in a training program for a new job he had just gotten, watching her 3.5 year old twins. This past summer with the twins was more of a constant thing of watching them--starting when I woke up when they were having breakfast, and going until they went to sleep, instead of just babysitting them for only a few hours.
Now that I look back at it--I guess my experience is typically watching 2 kids at once... I am good at multi-tasking, etc--so I can handle working with more than one child at once, if needed.
When I was in high school I also taught beginner violin lessons, for a summer, to a few kids--including ages 4 & 5, as well as 11-13. And during my last year of high school I tutored a few classmates 1-2 years younger than me in basic music theory. So, I know how it is to help kids of various ages to learn things, and to be patient and helpful during the process.
I DO have a driver's license in the USA, and I WOULD be willing to get an international driver's license so that I could drive there if wanted/needed.
