The Reasons I Want To Be An Au Pair:
|
I love children and being part of a family. I would like to learn more about other countries and cultures in a non-tourist environment. Being an au pair is a perfect job because I will be able to help and be part of a family, while learning, teaching, and traveling.
|
My Interests:
|
I am very energentic and friendly. Children bring so much joy to my life, and I feel that teaching and taking care of children is one of the best things you can do in life.
I love the outdoors. Environmental Studies was my major and I enjoy teaching children of all ages about nature and helping them enjoy the outdoors. I do not play any specific sports, but I love to swim and am very encouraging when others play.
I feel that I am a natural teacher and always look for opporunties to learn and to teach in everyday life. Reading is a hobby of mine and I espeically enjoy reading out loud.

Family Letter:
|
Dear Family,
I am a United States citizen from Washington State. I was born and raised in the medium sized city of Vancouver, that is included in the Portland Oregon Metro area. This area was and is a great place to live and has given me so much in my life. Close to the mountains and the sea, full of green forests, river valleys, urban and rural areas, I have become comfortable in the city and the country and have a great appreciation for both.
A only child, I spent a lot of time with my cousins and enjoy being part of a larger family. My cousins were my sublings and we always went on vacations with each other or just spent everyday life helping each other with chores and playing with each others friends.
I grew up very poor and put much more value on relationships than purchased items. My parents gave me so much love, it took a long time for me to realize that other people had a lot more money than my family, or why that was important to others. My parents also made sure that I knew how to take care of myself, making me a resourceful person with a great amount of faith and optimism. I am told that I am unbreakable in this positive outlook toward life and people and that I encourage others to be the same.
I was also taught the importance of giving back to society. All the good things that we had in our life were because my mother was good to people, helped others, and always donated to the poor, even if it looked like we had nothing to spare. If she did not have things to give, she gave herself, donating time to help others. I started doing this at a young age and still volunteer on environmental projects and events for the homeless.
My favorite place is a wildlife refuge close to my house and two years ago I started working on misc projects there. They are always amazed how I can work a full week with them and still volunteer to do extra projects.
Its easy to work hard for a cause you believe in. The rewards come back to me magnified in so many ways. Not only do I get a great feeling knowing that I am helping in a big way not just for now but for the future, but I am also helping the people that work, live around, and visit the refuge. I feel good on my own but they still go out of their way to give me praise and help whenever I need it. I've learned that family can be created anywhere.
Growing up poor, I never thought about traveling internationally because it was something that my parents were never able to do. It wasn't until college, when I saw other students studying around the world and making themselves so much more open and educated about the world, that I realized the possibilities. After two trips to the Middle East through my college Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Kuwait , I have fallen in love with the area and its people, as well as traveling and learning about different cultures. Learning about the world in this was has become my current focus.
I believe that education is the key to so many problems in the world and that individuals learning about the world is very powerful. Because I have traveled to places that many people back home only hear about on the news, I get many questions. I realized that I have a great opportunity to change the negative outlook that people recieve from television and replace this with an appreciation for the difference between cultures. This is a wonderful but also heavy responsibility. It is important for me to pay attention to people when I travel and learn well from them.
I hope that I can continue my learning with your family. And if you are interested, I can teach you about my culture too!
Thank you for this opportunity to tell you about myself. I hope that you have more questions and that I hear from you soon.
