The Reasons I Want To Be An Au Pair:

I have worked for family and friends as a babysitter the last few years, and have learned that I love working with children. I would eventually like to be a school teacher, but want to take a break from school for a year or two first. Being an Au Pair would give me a chance to gain more childcare experience.

My Interests:

I recently graduated from St. Lawrence University. I majored in biology, and minored in religion and math. In my free time I like to read, cook, swim, hike, and watch tv. I also love to travel.

Family Letter:

Dear Family, ~~My name is Racheal Gamble, and I am 23 years old. I recently graduated from St. Lawrence University with a degree in biology. I am looking for employment before I start graduate school. I hope to work for a few years and then return for my masters in education. ~~I have a strong family background in Rome, NY. My parents have been married for 24 years, and my younger sister is one of my best friends. My mom was home with us when we were younger, but is now a full time employee of Benjamin Moore. My father has worked for the same company for 20 years. We are the type of family that always eats dinner together, and we are often joined by my grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins. ~~Our home is located in a more rural area of the city, but Rome is unique in that we are still within city limits. Rome is a spread out city of almost 35,000 people. My family has lived in our house for the last 16 years. We all have chores to do around the house. Right now I am home more than the rest, so most of the cleaning and straightening falls on me, as well as a good portion of the cooking. ~~I have a lot of experience working with children of all ages and abilities. The first summer off during college I went to live with my cousin Dayna on an army base. She had a newborn baby at the time, and her husband had just been deployed to Afghanistan. When I arrived Maya had just turned 3 months old, and I was there for three months helping out. I was often found playing on the floor, reading to, or swimming with Maya. She was a colicky baby, so I could often be found sleeping in the recliner with Maya lying with me. We took turns with all of her care, from feeding and bathing, to doing her laundry and washing her bottles. While living with Dayna I learned how to multitask doing everything. If I was cleaning, cooking, or shopping, I was also watching Maya. ~~The following summer I helped out Titia Baker, a family friend for many years. When I got home for the summer, Josh was 8, Malinda was 6, and Vaughn was 2 months old. Titia had to go back to work sooner than expected to help her family financially. I stayed at her home with the baby and her two older children everyday that summer. I fed the children breakfast and lunch, played with them, walked them to summer camp three mornings a week, took them to the park, and helped them with summer studies, all while looking after Vaughn. I also did some cleaning and straightening up. While helping out the Baker family the only payment I received was gas money. ~~I have also volunteered with the Special Olympics swim team for the last two springs. The swimmers all have some type of disability, and my job was to help them learn to swim. My sister and I helped with coaching duties, but we were more one on one. We would get in the pool with the swimmers, and help them individually or in small groups, with specific skills. We also helped run the home competitions. This is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The children are so grateful, and they are always happy to see you. ~~Along with my volunteer work I have many hobbies. I like to read, swim, hike, golf, cook, watch tv, and play games. I am an accomplished swimmer, and spent many years on a team. I am more than happy to teach your children how to swim, or just add to their love of water. A lot of my spare time is spent reading, and outside. I would love to include your children in any of my favorite activities. ~~I have a resume ready, and references you can contact. If you are interested please do not hesitate to request them. I am willing to renew my CPR and First Aid certifications before working with your children. I would prefer to stay within the United States, but that is not a must. If you have any questions, please contact me. I am a happy, open minded, hard working, and caring person. I really want to make this work, and I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Racheal Gamble
