The Reasons I Want To Be An Au Pair:
|
I'm a recent graduate from Western Washington University with a BA in Human Services. Most of my professional experience in the Human Services field is related to children and families. I have a passion to serve others and travel. Therefore, I believe that au pairing would be the ideal profession for me.

My Interests:
|
Beyond my professional and volunteering experience, I also have several hobbies and interests. I love being outside but at the same time I really enjoy staying inside watching movies or playing games with family and friends. I love reading as well. I like playing ping-pong, Frisbee, and other athletic sports such as fastpitch softball, soccer, volleyball, and tennis. Sometime I can be a bit goofy which usually involves me singing and/or dancing. I love to sing even though I can’t carry a note for the life of me. I really enjoy music and concerts. Some of my favorite bands/musicians include John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, A Fine Frenzy, Steve Miller Band, Chris Brown, Lupe Fiasco, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Rascal Flatts.
I have future ambitions to get involved in international service work. I love helping others and traveling so I think a professional position abroad will give me the opportunity to fulfill both of those passions. My love for travel began after my first year of college when three of my friends and I went on a backpacking trip for two months in Europe. Since then I have traveled and volunteered in such areas as Jackson, Mississippi, and Portmore, Jamaica. I recently returned from a second tour through Italy. I hope to travel some more in the future. I love experiencing new cultures and meeting new people in different parts of the worlds.

Family Letter:
|
Dear Family,
After many years working directly with people in diverse professional settings, I am seeking to advance my experience as an au pair. For this reason, I would very much like to be considered as a strong candidate as your au pair. Ideally, this position would allow me the opportunity to utilize my experience gained working with children and families. I’m a recent graduate from Western Washington University with a BA in Human Services. The Human Services program prepares professionals to work in a variety of settings as case managers, advocates, youth workers, volunteer coordinators, para-educators, or fundraisers for individuals with various social needs. Graduates are usually employed providing helping services in agencies, state and non-profit organizations, and a variety of societal settings such as au pairing and nannying. The university’s Human Services curriculum draws from an interdisciplinary knowledge base and combines theory and practice with professional internships.
As a former intern at local non-profits such as Blue Skies for Children, Brigid Collins Family Support Center, and YouthLIfe, I obtained much learning and training in broad areas of human/child development, healthy living principles, and childcare. Currently I am a Youth Program Assistant at a local non-profit called the Boys and Girls Club. My job consist of planning and implementing youth programs and activities for kids the after school hours. Much of my experience is transferable, especially in the areas of customer service, interpersonal skills, analytical thinking, problem solving, organization, and leadership however, I look forward to learning more in the area of childcare.
I hope to travel some more in the future. I love experiencing new cultures and meeting new people in different parts of the worlds. I believe fulfilling a position such as au pairing would allow me the opportunity to experience new cultures, travel, and serve others abroad. Given the opportunity, I am confident that my experience and personable disposition would be an asset to your home. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Janelle Herrick
