What We Expect From Our Au Pair:

We are looking for a kind, fun-loving au pair as a 'big sister' for our three kids and to help out in a busy household for a period of 12 months . We live approximately 3 miles outside Cork - a vibrant and lively city which has a major university, great nightlife and shopping and lots of history and culture. Tina our first au pair made lots of friends and had a great social life here. We have a summer au pair - Larissa who has been living with us since May but she needs to return home to Germany therefore we are looking for a new au pair to start ASAP. What do we expect from our au pair? • We have busy work schedules and need extra support with childcare in the home. • We expect our au pair to provide a happy, supportive, energetic and interactive environment for the children in our home when we were not there. • We would like our au pair to alleviate pressure for us the parents at busy times ie: if we have guests in the house and need extra help or if John is busy on the farm and has to leave suddenly because a cow is calving or whatever. • We require the au pair to help out with daily household duties particularly those associated with the children. • The children were previously attending a crèche from 8am – 5.30pm Monday – Friday. While we were very happy with the crèche, we did feel it was a long day for the children and we wanted them to spend more time during the day/week in their own home. • Because of our work schedules and that fact that we have to work late sometimes we generally need a babysitter for 1 or 2 evenings a week. We feel it is nice to have consistency for the children when our au pair is there to care for them on these occasions. In summary, we want a friendly, flexible au pair who loves children and will be like a big sister and an extra pair of hands to help out in a very busy family! The characteristics required for our au pair: • Friendly, energetic, flexible, loyal, conscientious, helpful and capable of taking on responsibility and working on their own initiative with minimum direction. • Excellent with children – good fun but firm, energetic, interested in playing with and entertaining children. A good 'role model' • Capable of keeping up with the housework on a daily basis. What we can provide for the au pair: • A friendly welcoming home where the au pair would get an opportunity to experience family life in Ireland and improve their level of English in a family setting. • Their own bedroom, bathroom and TV with full board. • Weekly Pocket Money. • Help with settling in: - Help with transport when convenient - Mobile phone & bycycle - Access to the internet. If you feel you would be interested in being our next au pair please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions. Looking forward to hearing from you. Niamh Walsh.

Family Description:

There are 5 of us in the Walsh family. Niamh I run my own recruitment agency and currently work 4 days a week, John dairy farmer, Aoife 5 and a half year old girl, John Óg 2 and a half year old boy and Úna 8 month old baby. John Óg and Úna attend a creche four days a week and Aoife is attending the local school. We live in a detached house with 5 bedrooms. Although we are living on a dairy farm in a lovely country setting, we also live very close to Cork city about 3 miles which is the second largest city in Ireland. Cork has great shopping, nightlife and history. Aoife our eldest daughter is a lively fun-loving girl who loves arts & crafts, ballet, dance and the outdoors. John Óg lis a smiley active 2 year old who loves the outdoors and being around the farm with John my husband. Our little baby Úna is a cute and loveable little darling who smiles a lot but she hasn't developed any hobbies yet!

Au Pair Letter:

LETTER OF INTRODUCTION: BACKGROUND INFORMATION: There are five people in our family: Myself Niamh, my husband John, our daughter Aoife, our son John and our new baby Úna. We live in Monard, Rathpeacon which is a small townland on the old Mallow Road 3 miles from the Cork city centre, 2 miles from Blackpool and 3 miles from Blarney. We had an Au Pair – Tina from August 2007 – May 2008. I am a self-employed Director of my own Recruitment Company – FASTNET RECRUITMENT www.fastnetrecruitment.com. My husband John is also self-employed – he is a dairy farmer. Our daughter Aoife is 5 years old and started school last September. She will be 6 in September this year. Our son John Óg is 2 years old he was born on December 5th, 2005. Úna was born on November 13th last year and is now 7 months old. The older children both love playing outside when the weather is fine. Aoife particularly likes drawing and Arts and Crafts and John Óg loves reading stories and working on the farm with his Dad. Both Úna and John Óg attend a crèche, which is near University College Cork 4 days a week and Aoife is in school from 9am – 2pm 5 days a week. Our house is a two storey detached house on an acre site and our farm land is just behind the site with the farm buildings 10 minutes walk away. Aoife and John share a bedroom and Úna sleeps in the nursery. We converted our attic space last year and this comprises a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom on a separate floor. This is an ideal space for our Au Pair. WHY WE DECIDED TO GET AN AU PAIR: • We have busy work schedules and wanted extra support with childcare in the home. • To provide a happy, supportive, energetic and interactive environment for the children in our home when we were not there. • To alleviate pressure for us the parents at busy times ie: if we have guests in the house and need extra help or if John is busy on the farm and has to leave suddenly because a cow is calving or whatever. • To help out with household duties particularly those associated with the children. • The children were previously attending a crèche from 8am – 5.30pm Monday – Friday. While we were very happy with the crèche, we did feel it was a long day for the children and we wanted them to spend more time during the day in their own home. • Because of our work schedules and that fact that we have to work late sometimes we generally needed to call on a babysitter for 1 or 2 evenings a week. We felt it would be less unsettling for the children if the au pair was there to care for them on these occasions. In summary, the rationale behind our decision to get an au pair was to have an extra pair of hands to help out in a busy family environment and to be an asset to the overall household. The characteristics required for our au pair: • Friendly, energetic, flexible, loyal, conscientious, helpful and capable of taking on responsibility and working on their own initiative with minimum direction. • Excellent with children – good fun but firm, energetic, interested in playing with and entertaining children. What we want to provide for the au pair: • A friendly welcoming home where the au pair would get an opportunity to experience family life in Ireland and improve their level of English in a family setting. • Their own bedroom and bathroom and full board. • Weekly Pocket Money. • Help with settling in: - Help with transportation when convenient. - Mobile phone, bike. - Access to the internet. We are looking for our next au pair to start ASAP for a minimum of 12 months. Our first au pair was Tina – Tina was from the Blackforest in Germany and she lived with us for 9 months from August 2007 – May 2008. We now have a summer au pair – Larissa from Munich in Germany who will live with us until the end of August. Tina and Larissa would be happy to answer any questions on their experience as an au pair in Cork for our family.
