What We Expect From Our Au Pair:

We expect the Au Pair to be a child-loving, energetic, fun-loving person to take care of our two children. We expect the Au Pair to help us out in the mornings to get children ready for school and in the afternoons to pick them up and take care of them until we come back. Driving licence would be great to assist us in bringing the children to various activities. Some cooking would be helpful ! We have a cleaner, but we would appreciate if the Au Pair helps in keeping the children rooms tidy. Nice separate room with bathroom for privacy. Most evenings free, possibility for studies.

Family Description:

We are a 40 something family living in the Centre of Brussels. with two children girl 3 years old, boy 10 years old. Our son likes sports and plays the piano, and our little daughter is an energetic little person who oves her dolls and likes drawing. Our children speak French and German fluently with some English. We are a busy but flexible professional parents in the non profit /computer sector.

Au Pair Letter:

Dear au pair, Our son 10 years and our little daughter 3 years are our most important treasures that we have and that is why we are looking for somebody really special, for someone who can take care of them when we are not around, or even when we are around. Our son is going to the European School in Brussels. He is very sportive and loves soccer. We are thinking about getting him involved in a swimming club this year and are still discussing whether he will continue soccer or something else. He plays the piano, but prefers to play computer games, so sometimes we have to set up rules with him. He is sensitive but full of humor, very talkative and also very sweet, so if you get along with him, you will have a devoted friend for life. He requires as much attention than our little daughter, who is an energetic, strong willed three year old girl, who is an avid picture book reader and passionate about her dolls and her two soft toys Simba and Sarabi from the Lion King. She loves playing all kind of games. She goes to a little private school and is taught in French and English. While both love each other a lot, they have different characters, so this is often a fun but also challenging job to reconcile their needs. Our day starts early - at 6:30am to prepare the kids to go to school. At 3:30pm the little girl is to be picked up at school and our son walks home from the bus stop to be home at 4:30pm. One of us is home usually by 6:30pm. There are games to be played, homework to be done, maybe a little dinner a couple of times a week prepared for the children, etc. If you are a driver this would be a great help as our son likes to visit friends and/or go to his activities, which is sometimes a strain for two working parents. As a family we have traveled a lot, and my husband and I have lived in many different places, so openness and tolerance are very important to us. We believe that our children have a lot to learn from you, and we hope that we can share some of our way of life with you. We are busy individuals, me being involved in the non-for- profit sector and my husband in the information science sector, both working in the international context. Sometimes we have very busy weeks and sometimes things are less so. We care about the value of honesty and openness as well as humor. Sometimes our daily life is a bit hectic so we need to take things with humor and in an easy going manner. We live in a house in the very centre of Brussels, next to the Metro and tram stations. You would have your own room in the souterrain which we have just renovated. It has its own bathroom. We understand that in the off hours, privacy is really important both for you, but also for us, although we are open and willing to spend time together if you wish. We expect you to be there in the mornings and afternoons in the week. We might go out once/twice a week. We are committed to work out plans in advance so you know when you are 'off' and 'on'.
