What We Expect From Our Au Pair:

You will have full use of the car on days you are with the children and extra spending money will be provided for any trips, snacks etc. A typical day will be me getting up with one or both of the children (who share a room) early in the morning and trying hard not to wake anyone else up until it is time to get ready! I will get breakfast and get ready for work (both my wife and I are on flexible working hours but try to be in before 8.30 a.m. so that we can leave by about 4.30 p.m.) If we are taking the children to another child-minders in Coryton we leave by 8a.m. During the day you will need to help Connor complete his potty training and develop speech, plus usual being fed and active stuff. Connor sometimes has a nap about 11 or drops off in the car or pram, for a little while. I would very much like Dylan to keep in contact with his friends from Nursery during summer holidays. So if you don’t mind I would like to introduce you to some of their mothers so occasional days out together can be planned. We will eat together when it suits you but will be fully adaptable to your lifestyle and wishes too. You are not expected to cook but if you enjoy it we could take turns preparing each other different meals. Whenever we are there or another child-minder is in use, you will be free. Extra money is available for extra child-minding in the week or one evening as you prefer but we will make sure you keep a good work/life balance.

(Typical au pair pocket money here is between £65 to £75) All evenings and weekends are always free time but there would be extra pay for any baby-sitting during 1 evening, as agreed. We would very much like to invite you to come and stay with us and be our au-pair, starting in September 2007. Melanie and I both work at a nearby office in Cardiff Bay for a multi national Credit Insurance firm, and have 2 children we hope you will enjoy getting to know. Dylan is 5 and Connor, his younger brother is 3. I am told they look like me but I think they are much better looking than that! I look forward to getting to know you, as helping look after my children is the most important thing I could ask anyone to do. Thank you for the details you gave, which really impressed us, after we had looked through a number of others. Dylan goes to a Primary school in Coryton during term time but will be home most days during the summer. He loves watching and pretending to be Harry Potter, Power Rangers and Batman (sometimes in the same game!) Melanie’s parents (Paul & Maggie) live 5 to 10 minutes drive away. Mr Bennett is a salesman and Mrs Bennett a Purchase Manager. Their younger son, Ian, lives away whilst he is training to be a teacher. My parents (Bryn & Gay) live 15 to 20 minutes drive away. My father is retired after being a full time union official and my mother is a Secretary at the Welsh Assembly. My sister, Ceri, lives in London, working in an office for a College. The house you will be sharing with us is very close to Cardiff city centre and the Bay area. It is also within walking distance of many superstores and out of town shops and restaraunts. Cardiff is a university city, with many café’s, bars, cinemas, theatres, leisure centres and many cultural meeting places; including a new opera house, next to where we work. There is a lot to see and do and we look forward to showing you around and introducing you to many people. If you want to enrol for classes we are 3 minutes drive from Coleg Glan Hafren, where my wife has taken evening classes before for Psychology & Sociology and would be happy to show you around. I will be happy to help you with any study if, in return, you can teach me a few words of your own, to surprise my work friends in Spain with! You will, of course, have your own room, which we can put a lock on to keep the children out. This has a single bed, wardrobe, TV chair & desk. We will share use of everything else in the house, including the PC with Internet and will do all we can to make you feel as comfortable and welcome as possible.
