What We Expect From Our Au Pair:
|
We would like an au pair who is kind and caring, sensitive but firm. It would be nice for the au pair to be able to take the children places so they can socialize with other childre. The au pair's hours would be Monday-Friday 8.30am - 4.00pm approximately. Occasional extra babysitting with advanced notice. Some cooking and cleaning involved.

Family Description:
|
Frederic is French-Canadian and is very passionate about his language. He wishes for our girls to speak French fluently and that is why we require an au pair who can speak French.
Fred is 34. He is a senior mechanical engineer and has been working in his present company for 3 years. He enjoys skiing, reading, movies and spending time with his family.
I am also 34. I'm from New Zealand. I've lived in Canada now for 9 years. I am an elementary school teacher. I teach kindergarten through to Grade 5. I love to go out with friends...to the movies, shopping etc... . I also enjoy music, sports (especially rugby, netball, hockey and swimming), reading, my cats and of course, spending time with my two children.
Olivia is the eldest daughter. She has just turned 4. She is sensitiv, eenergetic and loves her gymnastics. She loves to read, dance and sing.
Sophia, our second daughter, turns 2 in November. She loves doing pretty much anything her big sister does.

Au Pair Letter:
|
Dear prospective au pair,
I never quite know what to say when I'm introducing myself (and my family). Here it goes... I realise I am stating the obvious, but Fred and I are looking for an au pair/nanny to look after our two girls from approximately January to the end of August 2008. Fred is 34. He is a senior mechanical engineer and has been working in his present company for 3 years. He is French-Canadian and is very passionate about our children fluently speaking French. He loves his hockey (as many Canadian men do), skiing, reading, movies and spending time with his family. Fred is reserved and quite shy. Once he knows someone, however, you can't keep him quiet! Both Fred and I love travelling and interacting with different cultures. We actually travelled a bit before the children were born and we're waiting for that time where we can travel again (hopefully with the children).
I am also 34. I'm from New Zealand. I've lived in Canada now for 9 years. I am an elementary school teacher. I teach kindergarten through to Grade 5. I LOVE my job. I'm in a tiny school which consists of 3 other teachers and myself. We have 64 children. The school has a strong family feel. I am more social than my hubby. I love to go out with friends...to the movies, shopping etc... . I also enjoy music, sports (especially rugby, netball, hockey and swimming), reading, my cats and of course, spending time with my two billylids.I have also just started up a children's clothing business. Not sure how that is going to go. We'll just have to wait and see.
On to the rest of my family. Olivia is my eldest. She is turning 4 tomorrow. Lulu (as we affectionately call her), is my sensitive child. She is very energetic and loves her gymnastics. She loves to read, dance and sing. Olivia will start half-day kindergarten in September. My other munchkin, Sophia, turns 2 in November. Sophia is my little monster. Loves to get into EVERYTHING. She can be quite charming and sweet, however. Sophia, unfortunately, inherited my genes and has a tendency to fall over her own feet, or walk into furniture. I still can't believe she can walk on a beam at gymnastics, and not fall off!
I had better not forget the family cats. We have 3. Muffin is our eldest. He is a large, tabby with a snobby attitude. I think he thinks he is the King of EVERYTHING! Bailey is next. He is not quite as big as Muffin...he's also a tabby and is our neurotic and sensitive cat. Finally we have Sadie. She is our little black kitten and will be 1 year in August. Each of our family felines certainly have unique personalities.
Now, let me tell you a little about our area. We live in Beamsville which is about an 1hr away from Toronto and 35 minutes away from Niagara Falls. We live in the fruit and wine country, which is wonderful during the summer. While Beamsville is a fairly small town, we have Hamilton and St Catharines not too far from us. We usually go to either place to shop. We have many nature trails and a number of tourist attractions close by.
You're probably wondering about the position! As I have already mentioned, we need someone for around January 2008 to August 2008. The girls are currently in daycare, but our daycare provider will close in February for maternity leave. We want someone who predominantley looks after the children during the day while Fred and I are working. Some cooking and light housework would be appreciated...but our children are the main priority. Petcare is not necessary. We would need our au pair to work Monday to Friday from around 8.30am until Fred and /or I get home (depending whether I have workshops or meetings, this should be around 4pm). Saturdays and Sundays and evenings would be yours, unless we ask you in advance to babysit the children, whereby we would compensate you for the extra hours. Also, any public holidays where you would normally work, you would have off and we would pay for the hours normally worked.
If you are interested in possibly joining our family as a nanny or aupair, or you simply have additional questions, please e-mail us back. Hope to hear back from you soon.
Sincerely,
Paula, Fred, Olivia, Sophia and the cats
