What We Expect From Our Au Pair:

Help with my daughter Maya who will be 7 years old in December-08; get her ready in the morning and take her to school and pick her up at the end of the day - make dinner for her, help with homework, drive her to after school activities and get her ready for bed. Mother works . Normal house work (help with grocery shopping, do laundry, ironing, cleaning etc.) Family has had 5 au pairs before, 2 of them stayed 2 years instead of the planned 1 year, and the current one came ofr 3 months to learn French but ends up 1 year with us! Mother has been au pair twice herself (USA and France). Plenty of time to attend French classes.
Family's Message to Au Pairs
Dear Au Pair, If you would like to come and join our small family, contact us! Independant "job" with clear duties, work hours and free time - we have had several au pairs and they all had a great time and stayed much longer than planned and are now friends of the family. I (the mother) have been an au pair myself so I know what it is like. We believe in mutual respect and pay well for the right person. We live in Lausanne, which is a smallish town with great access to skiing and the outdoors, and great for traveling around if you want to see some of Europe. It is also easy to meet other au pair girls and make friends. I ask for flexibility and good attitude, and a serious approach to your job - your spare time is your private time. I also prefer to meet beforehand, preferably here in Lausanne, so we all know we have made the right choice. And, Maya, my daughter, has the final say!!!! If you enjoy skiing itīs a plus as we spend the winter weekends and holidays in Verbier. Maya is very sporty in general and skis, swims, does gymnastics and rides horses. I would very much like to find and au pair who knows how to ski as I plan to rent an apartment in Verbier 2008-2009 as well; we spend all school holidays and weekends there this winter.
